I am drawn to old images of people at the beach — the formality of how they dressed, the way they carried themselves at the water's edge as though the ocean demanded a certain respect. I painted this small piece from a vintage reference, loose and gestural, letting the figures emerge from the paint rather than being carefully rendered. The woman in the blue skirt and white hat anchors the composition — she stands with such presence. An old pier ruins the horizon behind them. There is something melancholy and beautiful about it, this world that no longer exists. A small but deeply evocative piece for a coastal, classic, or collected interior.
