Coastal Storytelling…

Janelle Baglien’s paintings capture the quiet poetry of the Oregon coast, where sky, sea, and dunes meet in ever-shifting harmony. Working in acrylics, watercolor, and mixed media, she creates impressionistic seascapes that are both soothing and uplifting, inviting viewers into moments of calm reflection. Guided by the principles of neuroaesthetics, Baglien layers soft horizons, verdant blues and greens, and richly textured surfaces to evoke a sense of peace proven to lower stress and slow the heartbeat. Her brushwork is bold yet tender, balancing sweeping movement with subtle atmospheric nuance to create works that feel alive with light and air.

For over two decades, Baglien has translated her lifelong connection to the coast into paintings and large-scale installations that now reside in the collections of Fortune 1000 companies such as Kaiser Permanente and Providence Healthcare, as well as in hundreds of private collections worldwide. In recent works, she integrates vintage beach photographs from the early 1900s, a juxtaposition that underscores the timeless rhythm of the ocean against the passing of human generations. With each canvas, Baglien offers more than a landscape—she offers a restorative experience, a reminder of our enduring connection to the sea.
