I have always loved figure drawing — there is nothing quite like it for understanding the human form and learning to see quickly and honestly. This watercolor figure study came from a life drawing session, painted loosely and fast, the way watercolor demands. I love how the blue-green ground wraps around the figure and becomes the atmosphere she stands in — she is not separate from it, she is part of it. The white of the paper does as much work as the paint.
