This one came out of a moment of pure spontaneity — I was on the beach with paint and pencil and the sky was doing something wild, light shooting through breaking clouds in every direction. I let the marks follow the energy of it, working fast with broad washes of aqua and sage and then drawing right into the wet paint with pencil, describing the dune grasses and the path in quick, gestural strokes. The result is somewhere between a painting and a drawing and I love that about it. An immediate, alive piece that brings a fresh and personal energy to a coastal, contemporary, or eclectic interior.
