This is one of the most energetic paintings I've made of the Gearhart dunes — the sky was moving fast that morning, great sweeps of cobalt and aqua racing overhead, and I let the brushwork follow that energy right down into the grasses and scrub below. One of the Gearhart benches sits tucked into the dunes in the middle distance, almost hidden in all that color and movement. The marks are fast and instinctive — scratched lines, bold strokes, color laid down and scraped back. It is as much about the feeling of being out there in the wind as it is about the place itself. A vibrant, expressive piece for a contemporary, coastal, or eclectic interior.
