This painting came from a morning walk to the top of Tillamook Head — that dramatic moment when you reach the cliffs and the whole coastline opens up below you, the beach curving away to the north and the ocean stretching out endlessly to the west. I worked with paint and pencil together, letting the drawn lines describe the sharp edge of the headland while color washes carry the sky and sea. There is something raw and immediate about this piece that feels true to being up there in the wind with the world spread out below. A bold and expressive work for a contemporary, coastal, or collected interior.
