This small painting captures a view I love — the winding path through the coastal scrub that leads down toward the ocean, with a dark stand of shore pines anchoring the right side and the sea glimmering in the distance. I used pencil and paint together here, letting drawn lines show through the color in the sky and along the path, which gives it a spontaneous, sketchbook quality. It feels like a moment captured quickly, on the move, which is exactly what it was.
