I made this one sitting in the dunes looking south along the beach — the sand curving away, the water shifting between aqua and teal, a thin dark line of headland on the horizon with just a flash of pink where the light caught it. I worked quickly with paint and pencil together, the drawn marks describing the edge of the dune and the scratchy dune grass while the color washes carry the light and space of the scene. It has a looseness and freshness that I find hard to plan for — it just happened. A lovely piece for a coastal, contemporary, or eclectic interior that appreciates something personal and a little unexpected.
