There are benches tucked into the dunes all along the path in Gearhart, worn and weathered, sitting like quiet sentinels watching over the ocean. I have passed them on so many morning walks and always felt there was a painting in them. I mixed the entire palette from just three colors — magenta, cobalt blue, and cadmium yellow — applying most of the paint with a flexible palette knife, building up thick impasto strokes that give the dune grasses and sandy path real texture and life. Tillamook Head sits soft in the distance under a pale, luminous sky. A deeply personal piece that feels right in a beach cottage, coastal, or French country interior.
