It is not unusual to see elk on the beach in Gearhart — they wander down from the forest and stand at the water's edge as if they are doing exactly what we do: watching the waves, feeling the wind, just being present. I came across a magnificent bull one winter morning, standing completely still as a large wave crashed behind him, utterly unbothered. I knew immediately I had to paint it. There is something ancient and quietly powerful about that image — this wild creature and the wild ocean, equally matched. The moody palette of deep blue, slate, and warm brown makes this a striking statement piece for a Pacific Northwest, coastal, or nature-inspired interior.
